Sberbank Group’s Cloud Platform and Supercomputer to Become the Digital Core of the lesvostok.rf Service

The Far East and Arctic Region Development Fund (FEDF, affiliated with VEB.RF Group) and Sberbank Group have entered into a technical cooperation agreement in the field of digital products and cloud technology under the project of lesvostok.rf online service development.

In particular, to ensure the service operation, the parties intend to use Sberbank Group’s SberCloud platform and Christofari supercomputer ranked 36th among the world’s most powerful supercomputers.

The new system of forestry sector management and forest infrastructure development is being developed upon instruction of Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation — Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation to the Far Eastern Federal District. The objectives of the project are as follows: creating an environment conducive to sustainable development of the forestry management sector and wood processing industry, generating open public data and procedures for allocating forest plots for use, implementing exchange auction mechanisms, and creating an infrastructure required to establish a public market of wood transactions.

Kirill Berman, Vice President, FEDF: “Sberbank Group’s IT cloud platform will be the core of the lesvostok.rf digital ecosystem. Our cooperation will make it possible to process huge data arrays. In particular, we will be able to comprehensively analyse the satellite images of all forests in the Russian Far East using AI solutions every 72 hours. This will enable real-time monitoring of forest resources and prompt prevention of illegal logging.

Mikhail Chachin, Vice President, Director of the Department for Public Sector Affairs, Sberbank Group: “We take pride in our involvement in the initiative that will add innovation, technical sophistication, and transparency to one of the key economic sectors. I am certain that our cooperation with the Far East Development Fund will prove efficient and make it possible for the forestry department to benefit from all opportunities provided by the digital platform in the near future. Considering the geographic location, the findings of the industry expert evaluation conducted by the bank indicate that the region’s timber industry has a strong potential. Availability and transparency of timber supply data will ensure mobilisation of investments in the sector and boost its growth”.
